Prepare to Trust in God’s Provision
Read Hebrews 11:17-19: “By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, ‘Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.’ He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead.”
In this passage, we see Abraham do something that seems completely crazy. God had made a promise to Abraham that he would be the father of many nations. God had promised to make this happen specifically through Isaac. After making that promise, God then commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. The completely crazy thing is that Abraham was ready to do it! Abraham completely trusted in God’s provision. That means that he trusted that God would provide even if it made no sense, even if it was completely impossible and crazy! Abraham knew that our God in Heaven was working things out for good, so he believed God’s promise to use Isaac to make a great nation. He believed that promise so strongly that he was even willing to sacrifice Isaac. He knew if it came down to it, God could even raise Isaac from the dead to still fulfill His promise.
In our lives, there will come times when we have to trust God even when it seems like there is no way out. We must trust and obey God even when it makes no sense. God loves and provides for His children.
What does it mean to trust someone?
Has anyone in your life ever made you not want to trust them?
How much can you trust in God?
Abraham knew God’s promises and trusted them. Do you know what God has promised in your life?
If your answer to the last question was “no,” do you know what you can do to find out what God has promised?
What can you as a family do to study God’s Word and then rest in His promises found within His Word?
Family Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and being a good Father that takes care of His children. Help us to draw near to You in prayer and in study of Your Word. Help us to have peace in hardship. Help us to trust You like Abraham trusted You even when things seem impossible. Thank You for the ways that You have already provided for us and the ways that You will continue to provide for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
