Jesus Gave It All

Lesson Four | What Is Passed On
Devotion 5: Jesus Gave it All
Pastor Mitchell Holmes

Isaiah 53:5-6 says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned - every one - to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

In Genesis chapter 25, at the end of his life, we see that Abraham gave everything that he had to Isaac. It is the picture of a father leaving this life and leaving behind all that he had for his son. Abraham had other sons and daughters, but the Bible specifically says that he left everything for Isaac. This was the child through whom God was going to bring about His promise. It is a picture of the One that would allow us to be reunited with God and become heirs to this same promise. The One being spoken about is Jesus.

Just as Abraham gave all that he had for his child, Jesus gave it all for our sake. Jesus took our sins upon Himself on the cross. He was given the punishment that we deserved but could never afford. He paid the price of death that we all owed. He gave it all so that we could, by belief in Him, be reunited with God and join in on the promise given to Abraham, becoming a member of the family of the Lord. By believing in Jesus and His willingness to give it all on the cross for our sake, and by repenting and turning away from our sins, we become His children and will spend an eternity praising His name in Heaven. There has never been a more perfect or loving sacrifice. The fact that our Heavenly Father would send His own Son to die in our place is such an astounding truth. What will you do with such a truth?

What does it mean to sacrifice?

Has anyone in your life ever sacrificed anything for you?

How much do you think God loves you based on what we just talked about?

How does it make you feel knowing that Jesus paid the price for your sins so that you do not have to?

Have you put your faith in Jesus? Why or why not?

Family Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your son to the earth to live and die for us. Help us to recognize what a price it was that He paid for our sake on that cross. Help us not to take His sacrifice for granted and to allow the Holy Spirit to move us towards repentance and belief. Guide our family closer to You and lead us to placing our full trust in You always. Help us to desire You above all else and always remember how much You love us as a good father. In Jesus name, Amen.
