Devotion 2: Reunited
Pastor Noble Baird
The whole concept and idea of a new Heaven and new Earth are mind-boggling. Maybe, this is true for just me, but this is a concept and an important part of Scripture that has always been difficult for me to understand and comprehend. Although I have done some studies, I truly believe we can never study Scripture enough. Just when we think we may have exhausted a passage, the Spirit will reveal another portion or vantage point that we never even considered. In the same way with Revelation, the amount of debate and views are simply endless.
In Revelation 21:3-4, John writes, “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’” What an amazing truth and comfort! The dwelling place of the Lord is with us, His most prized creation! Yet, it does not end there; He will wipe away every tear, death will end, pain will not exist, suffering will not be a thing, and He will wipe it all away. The amazing truth of this new Heaven and new Earth is that we will be in the presence of the Lord. His creation will finally be perfected alongside Him, as we were always intended to be!
This may seem like a cop-out to some. However, for me, there is no greater comfort to the uncertainty and the endless debates about a new Heaven and new Earth than knowing that we who have professed Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior will be in His presence, physically together with Him. On that glorious amazing day, He truly will wipe away every tear, sorrow, any ounce of fear and hurt, because we will be reunited with our Lord and Savior for all eternity!
