Devotion 5: Consider Your Walk
If you have ever walked with a little child, you may have noticed how aimless they seem to be. When walking as a family, with several small children, someone is always walking too fast, or too slow, or bumping into someone else. It is amazing how, in one short walk, I have told someone they need to slow down, someone else they really need to keep up, and asked another to stay where I can see them. There are times a task as simple as walking can feel like so much more of a struggle than I ever anticipated. Have you ever caught yourself feeling as if your spiritual walk feels like that aimless child? As you have journeyed on, or attempted to start, your walk with Jesus Christ, have you ever considered the path that you are on?
Colossians 4:5 says, "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time." Here Paul is giving us some information about where we are meant to walk, and that is towards the outsider. As we focus on turning back to Reach, we are moving towards sharing the truth of Jesus with others! Paul is not telling us to stay away from the unbeliever, but rather to specifically go towards them.
Consider in a day how often you follow this verse. Do you purposely walk towards the outsider, those who do not know who Jesus is? Maybe, thinking about it, you realize that you have found it more comfortable to stay with those who are already within the church and living this truth. Do you take any opportunity, making the most of the time, to share the love of Christ with others? Even at the grocery store, the playground, or your workplace, there are people we encounter and interact with who we can show and tell how Jesus has changed our lives.
Take some time today to evaluate if your walk is with purpose, or if you are walking aimlessly in showing Jesus to others. “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise” (Ephesians 5:15).
