Devotion #3: The Best Help
I have always been into playing video games. As a child playing video games, I would frequently come across levels in a game that seemed impossible to beat. After what seemed like hours of attempts, cries of frustration, and, to my embarrassment, tears, I would sulk my way to my father to ask for help. In moments, he would pass the game back to me with the level conquered. Something that seemed impossible to me was taken care of in a matter of minutes by the ultimate gamer. We have a Father who takes care of things far more significant than levels in a video game.
Have you ever been around someone vastly superior to you at a certain skill? Who was it, and what was the skill?
Romans 8:31 says, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Oftentimes, we believe that we are the only ones on our team. We believe the lie that we are the only ones who truly want what is best for ourselves 100% of the time. So, we do things according to our own strengths and our ways. Often, we end up just as frustrated as 10-year-old Justin struggling on a seemingly impossible video game level. Fortunately, we do not have to do things on our own, and we are not the only ones on our team. We have a God who is for us even when it seems that no one else is.
Who are some people who look out for your best interest?
When is a time you tried to do things your own way only for you to regret it in the end?
Paul asks a rhetorical question in Romans 8:31, with the answer being, “No one can stand against us.” Those of us who have received salvation through faith in Jesus Christ cannot be taken from God, hindered, or overtaken by anyone who seeks to stand against us. When we feel discouraged or weak, it is important to remember that our strength does not lie within ourselves but in our God, a God who no one can stand against. Our God is mighty, in control, good, and looks out for our best interests. He is worthy of our trust. In times of worry, fear, and anxiety, we can trust that He will see us through.
Spend some time praying and offer up to God some things that you are feeling fear or worry about. Ask Him to help you and to produce faith in you to rely on Him. Ask Him to give you assurance that with Him on your side, nothing can stand against you.
