Devotion #2: The Foundation of Truth
Pastor Caleb Combs

In a world where truth often feels elusive and subjective, it can be challenging to discern what is real and what is merely opinion. Today, many people speak of “my truth,” as if truth can be molded by personal feelings. However, as we delve into the book of Romans, we encounter the profound and unchanging truth found in Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Paul begins his letter with a compelling reminder: Jesus was foretold by the prophets. Romans 1:2-3 tells us, “…which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh.” Over three hundred prophecies in the Old Testament point to Jesus, affirming that His arrival was not a mere coincidence but a divine plan fulfilled in history.

When we consider these fulfilled prophecies, we are reminded that God’s truth is consistent and reliable. In a world that shifts and sways, let us anchor ourselves in the promises that have already come to fruition. Furthermore, Paul emphasizes the resurrection of Jesus as a pivotal fact of our faith. In Romans 1:4, he writes, “And was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.” This powerful declaration is not just a statement of belief; it is backed by the testimony of over five hundred witnesses who encountered the risen Christ.

The resurrection is the ultimate affirmation of who Jesus is - our Savior, our Truth. It assures us that the claims of our faith are grounded in historical reality, giving us hope and confidence in a world that often denies absolute truth.

As you navigate your day, remember that Jesus is the foundation of truth. In John 14:6, He declares, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” When the world presents a shifting landscape of ideas and opinions, we can turn to Him for clarity and assurance.

Let the truth of Christ permeate your heart and mind. In moments of uncertainty, reflect on the prophecies fulfilled and the reality of the resurrection. Allow these truths to guide your understanding and shape your perspective, making Jesus the unwavering anchor in your life.
