Dangers of Following Your Own Path
When I was thirteen years old, my family moved to a new house. I was further away from my best friend, and I still wanted to see him. So, one day, I got on my bike and had to choose between two paths to get there. The one path that I knew would take me directly to his house or the other path, which was a way I thought would be a shortcut. I took the shortcut, and it took me getting chased by a dog, falling in a ditch, and stopping at a fallen bridge, which made me realize that it was the wrong way. I never made it to my friend’s house, and I had to go back home.
Have you ever gotten lost trying to go your own way?
How do you feel when you get lost?
Read Genesis 15:1-6.
What did God promise Abram?
What was God’s plan in these verses?
Abram wanted to have an heir, a son. God promised Abram a son. Even though the Lord of all the universe promised Abram and Sarai, they still felt they were too old to have kids. In Genesis chapter 16, Sarai and Abram took their own way of having a son and did not follow the path that God had planned. This caused many issues because they were not trusting in God’s path and instead went on their own route to disaster.
Why is it dangerous to go your own way and not God’s?
Read Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
According to these verses, why is God’s path the right way?
Family Prayer: Pray with your family and ask God to help you trust in His ways and His path for you and your family. Seek Him rather than trying to go your own way and getting lost or in trouble.
