Devotion 5: Change is Possible
Pastor Ryan Story

“And Joshua said to all the people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Long ago, your fathers lived beyond the Euphrates, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods.’’” Joshua 24:2

When we read about Abraham, we often forget that he started his life far from God. Before God called Abram, Abram lived in a place where no one worshiped God. That means not Abram’s dad, not his wife, not his brother, not even his neighbors. Everyone lived a life that was full of sin and full of doing whatever they wanted. Abram was a man who was far from God and lived in a way that was not how God wants anyone to live. However, God is so amazing that He called Abram to know Him. God told Abram to have faith in His plan, and Abram did! One of the most important truths anyone can know in the Bible is that if we know God, we can change. God does an amazing thing when people put their faith in the truth that Jesus died for their sins, and confess that Jesus rose again three days after dying on the cross. When we put our faith in Jesus, just like Abraham, God changes us. God comes to live in the hearts of those who believe, and He helps us make the choices to serve and live for Him.

How can a person’s heart be changed?

How was Abraham’s heart changed?

Why is faith so important to bring a change in our hearts?

Can we change if our hearts are not willing?

How did God change our family?

Family Prayer: Dear Jesus, Thank You for Your love. Lord, we ask that our love for You changes us from the inside out. Lord, please help us have the faith to trust You. Lord, forgive us when we wander away from You. Lord, please keep us close to You. Jesus, we praise You for allowing our family to know that change is possible when we put our trust and faith in You and Your work on the cross. We love You, Jesus. Amen.
