“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10

Did you know that the Bible mentions the words “serve” or “servant” hundreds of times? You will find the underlying theme of servanthood all throughout God’s Word. It is no wonder that the Bible mentions these words so many times when Jesus, the Son of God refers to Himself as a servant.

There are so many ways to get involved to serve your church and serving is about giving. We give of our time, talent, and resources, as we lay aside our pride, desires, and selfishness. By giving of ourselves we can help present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God as found in Romans 12:1.

Our key verse referenced above (1 Peter 4:10) states the words “serve one another.” It is a great feeling to sit back and be served, but it is an amazing feeling to serve others. I have noticed in my life that some of the most influential Christians I have known have also been exceptional servants.

Many people are familiar with the Bible verse found in Acts 20:35 that states, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” but sadly to many this is just paying lip service. I would love to challenge you to go beyond your comfort zone and prove God’s Word and find out firsthand that it is truly more of a blessing to give than to receive. In fact, I would like to word this a little differently and say that it is truly more of a blessing to serve than to be served. Find out the area that your unique set of gifts or talent is needed and dive in headfirst. Never lose sight that God made you uniquely different than anyone else on the planet and serve Him within your given capacity.

As a body of believers, we need you on the team! We all have different strengths and weaknesses, but together we make up the body of Christ.

Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” I challenge you to join our team and give of yourself even if it makes you uncomfortable. Watch God use and bless you and therein make your life a blessing to others. No one ever gets to the end of their life and wishes they would have done less for God. Recommit yourself today and join your church team and fill in the gaps where needed. It is not too late to join, and we need you! Give your life a new purpose starting right now.
