Heirs of the Promise
Romans 4:13-15 says, “For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.”
One of the most powerful things in a person’s life is often a promise. This is true no matter what your age is, whether you are 5, 55, or 105. If someone gives you a promise, it is very important to you that they keep it. I am sure you can think about a time when someone gave you a promise and broke it. We know how sad that makes us feel and how that can ruin a relationship.
Here in Romans, a great promise is mentioned. We are told that we can become heirs, or someone who is a recipient of a blessing, of the best promise that has ever been given in the world. We read earlier in this book about the promise that was given to Abraham thousands of years ago. It is the promise that God will bless us and that He will be our God forever. How can we receive this promise? The answer is like the last devotion, by putting our faith in Jesus. If we put our faith in Him, the Bible says we are now recipients of this amazing promise. We can be sure that God will make sure this promise is fulfilled because He is far better than anyone or anything else in this world.

Family Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for allowing us to become heirs of this amazing promise. Help us to cherish this promise more and more every day. Lead us to continually put our faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a family, give us the strength to trust that You will be faithful to this promise in our lives no matter what we go through. In Jesus name, Amen.
