Devotion #6: Nugget Couch
This past year my wife and I bought our toddler son a Nugget Couch. If you are not familiar, a Nugget Couch is made up of several cushions that can be put in many different designs. Take a moment to Google Nugget Couch designs, they can be so fun for children in your life!
Overall, the goal of Nugget Couches is to provide a safe place for children to climb indoors. My wife and I enjoy putting the cushions in different formations to create obstacle courses to challenge our son to climb.
Over the last several months, I quickly learned that it is so important to make sure that I create a firm foundation for each Nugget design I create. If I fail to create a firm fountain for my Nugget Couch design, my son will potentially get hurt. This really relates to today’s passage.
Matthew 7:24 says, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Jesus is proclaiming that those who hear the words that He is teaching and then apply them are like a man who builds on a rock. A rock is an example of a firm foundation. We build on a firm foundation by listening, studying, and applying God’s Word in our lives.
This is not always easy, but it is so important because a firm foundation is the only thing that can stand the test of trials and tribulations.
In 2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV), we read, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
We can build our lives upon God’s Word because His Word is not written by man. It has been given to us through the inspiration of God.
Just as it is important for me to have a firm foundation for my Nugget Couch design so my son will be safe when playing, we need to be building our lives on the firm foundation of God’s Word so that when trials come we know our faith will stand the test of time.
