Devotion 4: My Hero

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
What does it mean to you when you hear, “Mighty God”? You think of something powerful, strong, and maybe even large or astounding. In Hebrew, the phrase “Mighty God” translates to “El Gibbor” which can mean a God-Like Hero. He is our Hero! He is our healer and our strength! Wow; what a “Mighty God” we serve.
Deuteronomy 10:17 says, “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.” This divine title can only describe God. We can simply read the text and know that the plans of Jesus were put in place so that He would be King. However, how often has Jesus been just that in your life? Who knew that the names written on His life before His arrival would truly mean so much?
I walked through one of the hardest seasons of my life just a few years ago. Not knowing what the outcome would be for my life or my children, I pushed through and leaned on Jesus. God came through in mighty ways as I learned to grow in Him and be refined by His Word. I was and am in awe of Him and just how mighty He is, but through it all He was loving. Our “Mighty God” is strong but remember that this means He is gentle and loving as well. Our “Mighty God” came to this world as a baby to love us all and bring us freedom in His name.
