We are ONE team.

Throughout the day attendees will take part in a total of four breakout sessions. These breakout sessions have been designed to strengthen team members individually as well as the team as a whole.

Breakout Sessions 1 + 2 are focused on strengthening and developing the team member as an individual. This provides you with the opportunity to choose sessions based on your interests, desired areas of growth, and in places you want to be better equipped.

Breakout Sessions 3 + 4 shift to a team focused approach, bringing you together for more focused, practical training, conversation, and alignment specific to your team.

Take a look through the sessions below and come ready to learn, grow, and leave better equipped for the part you play in our shared mission.

Individual Focused Breakout Sessions

Choose sessions based on your own personal interests, desired areas of growth, and in places you want to be better equipped.

One church, multiple locations, one mission — but it is easy for each location to quietly start running its own race. In this session we will make the biblical and strategic case for multi-site, name the silos that form between our locations, and talk honestly about what unity costs each of us. You will leave with a clearer picture of how your location strengthens every other location, and why “we” will always beat “us and them.”

Front stage is whatever part of your serving people actually see — preaching a sermon, holding a door, running a camera, teaching four-year-olds. Back stage is everything they don't. This session addresses the gap that forms between the excellence we present publicly and the spiritual, emotional, and mental condition we carry privately, because the ministry you offer is only ever as healthy as the person offering it. We will talk candidly about the pressures that come with serving at any level, the warning signs that the gap is widening, and the rhythms that keep your private life strong enough to sustain your public role. Come ready for an honest conversation about caring for your own soul while you spend it on others.

What we believe about humanity shapes how we preach, how we counsel, how we parent, and how we lead. This year’s theological focus is the doctrine of man: who God made us to be, what sin did to us, and what redemption restores. We will work through the Scriptures together and then connect that doctrine to the practical ministry decisions you make every week, so that every location and every ministry is teaching from the same foundation. Whether you teach from a stage, a classroom, or a living room, you will leave with language you can use with confidence.

The hardest transition in ministry is the move from doing the work yourself to building people who can carry it with you. If you have outgrown what your own two hands can accomplish — or your team only really runs when you are in the room — this session is for you. We will cover how to spot someone with potential, how to hand off real responsibility without losing quality, and how to coach a person through their first failure instead of quietly taking the job back. You will leave with a named next step for at least one person you should be developing right now.

Friction is not proof that something has gone wrong — it is proof that people are working together. What matters is what happens next. This session offers a biblical framework for conflict along with practical tools for the conversations most of us would rather avoid: the volunteer who will not follow through, the teammate who feels overlooked, the tension that builds between two locations. We will walk through how to go directly, speak clearly, and pursue restoration rather than victory.

You cannot lead people somewhere you are not going yourself. This session is a practical guide to personal time in Scripture — not another guilt trip, but methods you can actually sustain in a demanding season of ministry. We will cover approaches to study and devotion, then turn the corner to how you teach those same habits to the people you lead, so your volunteers and your family are feeding themselves rather than depending on you. Bring your Bible and your honest questions.

Discipleship does not stop when the lights come up on Sunday. The River produces and points to more resources than most of our people know exist — podcasts, sermon archives, apps, reading plans, and more. In this session we will walk through what is available, show you how to put the right resource in the right person’s hands at the right moment, and build the habit of always pointing people to a next step beyond the weekend. You will leave knowing exactly what to recommend the next time someone asks, “What do I do now?”

Most of us use a fraction of the tools we already have. This hands-on session is a working tour of the systems that run our church week to week: Planning Center for people and scheduling, the volunteer and Growth Community portal, and the website and app. We will spend real time on communication — how to reach your group or your serving team, what to send where, and how to keep the conversation going through the week without anyone falling through the cracks. Bring a laptop or phone and leave with the shortcuts that save you hours every month, and a clear answer to "where do I find that?"

Every one of us can tell somebody about Jesus — most of us just want a way to start that does not feel forced. This session gives you simple, repeatable ways to share your faith in ordinary conversations at work, in your neighborhood, and across your own kitchen table. We will practice out loud, then talk through how to hand the same tools to your team so that evangelism becomes a team habit instead of a staff assignment. You will leave with words you can actually use this week.

A guest decides how they feel about our church long before the message begins. This session walks the entire arrival experience through the eyes of someone coming in for the first time: the parking lot, the front door, the hallway, and the moment they are left standing alone. We will name the small things that say “you belong here” and the small things that quietly say the opposite, and we will talk about why every team — not just guest services — shapes that first impression. You will leave with specific changes your location can make this weekend.

Options for Breakout Sessions 3 + 4

Team-Focused Breakout Sessions

Choose sessions based on the team(s) in which you serve. The goal for these sessions is to bring you together for more focused, practical training, conversation, and alignment specific to your team.

REACH

Mission trips cost real money, real time, and real relational capital — so what are we actually trying to accomplish? In this session we will cast a clear vision for how The River approaches missions: where we go, why we go there, what we are building in the people we send, and what we owe the partners who host us. We will look at how a single trip connects to the long-term work on the ground rather than functioning as a one-week event. You will leave able to talk about missions with your team and prepare someone who is going for the first time.

A great event idea dies without a plan, and a well-run event multiplies everything the ministry behind it is trying to do. This session walks the full life of an event: defining the win up front, building a timeline backward from the date, assigning ownership so nothing lands in the gap between two people, and running a debrief that makes the next one better. We will use real examples off our own calendar — what worked, what did not, and why. You will leave with a repeatable checklist you can hand to any volunteer.

GATHER

Safe environments allow the ministry of the church to thrive without distraction. In this session for returning security team members, we will review our team handbook, align on critical policies and procedures, and refocus on our core vision. Reconnect with the team as we fine-tune our practical protocols and sharpen our commitment to serving and protecting our church.

Hospitality isn’t just a role—it’s a collective culture across every location of The River Church. Whether you are directing cars, pouring coffee, welcoming people at the doors, or guiding guests at the guest services desk, every single touchpoint matters. In this session, we will unpack what it looks like to carry out our guest services vision with excellence and unity. Discover how your specific team connects to the broader mission and how we can work together to ensure every person feels seen, valued, and connected.

When you have the stage on a Sunday morning, every second and word counts. In this interactive training session, we’ll unpack how to communicate key information quickly and effectively without losing the room. You will learn how to present yourself with confidence, refine your vocabulary to speak warmth and clarity to both first-time guests and our church family, and structure your message for maximum retention. Come learn how to turn announcements from a break in the service into a powerful tool for ministry engagement.

Leading worship on Sunday involves more than singing songs or knowing the arrangement. This breakout will focus on how to lead a worship team through rehearsal, give clear musical feedback, make arrangement adjustments, and then lead the team and congregation during a gathering from the stage through transitions, prayer, and musical direction.

Every detail of your presentation—from your heart attitude and mic technique to your posture and in-ear mix—impacts your ability to help the church worship. Join us for an interactive guide to platform leadership, stage presence, facial expression, and vocal awareness. Discover how to comfortably hear yourself, blend seamlessly, and lead with confidence every time you step onto the platform.

For video switchers and camera operators, the goal is much bigger than just getting a subject in focus—it’s about digital hospitality and storytelling. In this breakout, we will unpack the core purpose of our video ministry. We’ll discuss how in-room IMAG enhances the worship experience by drawing people in, and how our broadcast serves a massive purpose online. Learn how your technical skills create welcoming first impressions for visitors, support those at home, and provide the essential recordings we use for podcasts, sermon catch-ups, and community outreach.

ChartBuilder is the powerful app our worship team uses to view dynamic chord charts and practice songs at home. In this practical skill-building workshop, you’ll learn how to get the most out of the app’s features. We will cover how to transpose keys instantly, switch between chord symbols and the Nashville Number System, practice alongside isolated audio stems, and navigate setlists seamlessly during rehearsal and live worship.

For our photographers, short-form videographers, and social media creators, this session breaks down the “what,” “how,” and “when” of our digital strategy. We will dive into our vision for telling the story of our church, setting clear expectations for visual quality, framing, and capturing the right vibe. Just as importantly, we’ll map out the practical pipeline: how we collaborate on the floor, share files efficiently, and move content seamlessly from the camera lens to our audience to engage our digital community.

GROW

Accountability has a bad reputation because most of us have only experienced it after something already went wrong. This session reframes it as one of the healthiest gifts a team can give each other. We will talk about guarding character before there is a problem, tracking the handful of metrics that actually indicate health rather than activity, and building enough trust that your team tells you the truth early. You will leave knowing what you should be asking your leaders regularly — and what they should feel free to ask you.

Ministry isolation is quiet, and it is usually well hidden by people who are very good at their jobs. This session is about building intentional support across our locations so that no leader is carrying the load alone. We will learn to recognize the early signs of burnout in ourselves and in the people around us, then put practical rhythms in place: who checks on whom, how often, and what to do when the honest answer is not a good one. You will leave with at least one person from another location who has your back.

Every leader has one — the name on the caller ID that changes your mood. This session applies the timeless principles of Scripture to the people who are hardest to lead, with an emphasis on grace, wisdom, responsibility, and healthy boundaries. We will work through how to stay kind without becoming a doormat, when to absorb an offense and when to address it, and how to hold a firm line while leaving the door open. You will leave with practical, Scripture-centered tools for your next hard conversation.

Young adults are the most mobile and least programmable group in the church — and they will be leading it in ten years. This session is for anyone building young adult ministry at their location: how to identify and develop leaders from inside the group rather than importing them, how to use Planning Center and our existing tech workflows to keep pace with a fast-moving community, and how to structure things so the ministry survives when any one leader steps away. We will compare notes across locations and leave with a shared plan.

FAMILY

For a young family, the nursery is the single biggest factor in whether they come back. This session is about elevating our early childhood environments from passive childcare into intentional spiritual foundation-building, because faith formation starts far earlier than most people assume. We will cover the safety and check-in standards every location is expected to hold, the small hospitality details that reassure a nervous first-time parent, and simple ways to plant gospel truth in our youngest kids. You will leave with a clear standard for your room and your volunteers.

Brite is the curriculum framework that keeps every River location telling the same gospel story on the same weekend. In this practical session we will go beyond the binder: how to prepare a lesson well, how to use the media and worship elements the way they were designed, how to coach a volunteer who is teaching it for the first time, and how to adapt for room size and age range without losing the point. Whether Brite is brand new to you or you have run it for years, you will leave with a stronger weekend.

Awana should be the night our kids beg their parents not to miss. This session covers the operational side of making that true: a mid-week run sheet that actually holds up, tracking scripture memorization so no child slips through the cracks, and placing volunteers in high-energy roles that match how God wired them. We will troubleshoot the problems every location runs into — thin volunteer rosters, uneven sections, midyear drop-off — and share what is working right now.

A weekly Growth Community is a starting line, not a finish line. This session equips student leaders with tangible frameworks — and clear guardrails — for stepping into students’ lives beyond the hour we have them each week. We will talk about what healthy contact looks like outside of church, the boundaries and safety expectations that protect both students and leaders, and how to help a student move from attending a group to being genuinely known. You will leave with a plan for your own group and language you can hand to your leaders.

OPERATIONS

Our operations work runs on the Monday.com platform, and this is continued, hands-on training for the coordinators who live in it every week. We will review how boards and items are structured, how to move work through the process without losing track of it, and how to keep statuses current so that everyone can see where a project actually stands. Bring your questions and your real projects — we will work through them together.
