Key Verses

Luke 21:1-4

The Widow's Offering

21:1 Jesus [1] looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. [2] And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

2 Corinthians 8:1-5

Encouragement to Give Generously

8:1 We want you to know, brothers, [3] about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor [4] of taking part in the relief of the saints— and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. (ESV)
